About Joy
I dipped in and out of yoga classes for a number of years but although I enjoyed practising I hadn't found the right fit for me. In 2010 I moved to Whitstable and started classes with Emma Slade. It was Emma's inspirational teaching that really ignited my passion for yoga. I attended Emma's classes for the next 7 years, completing the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course with Emma in 2017. I then went on to complete the BWY Teaching Certificate in June 2019 taught by Karin Van Maanen, Lina Newstead and Cora Kemball-Cook.
I continue to attend regular classes, workshops and courses with experienced and well respected yoga teachers to enhance my own practice. I also have monthly one-to-one mentoring with a senior yoga teacher to ensure I am receiving support and continuously reviewing and improving my teaching.
Prior to teaching yoga I worked as a music therapist for 18 years. During this time I developed a compassionate and inclusive approach to working with people, which is integrated into my teaching of yoga.
I have personal experience of severe anxiety and associated depression which also informs my teaching and gives me insight into how our mental health can impact our lives. I continue to learn and share practices which I find helpful for building resilience and supporting mental wellbeing.
